Terrorism Act 2000
The Terrorism Act 2000 reformed and extended existing
legislation to counter terrorism in the United Kingdom.
Part VII and Schedules 10- 13 of the Act relate specifically
to Northern Ireland.
Schedule 12 of the Act is of particular relevance to the
Criminal Damages
Compensation Scheme. Schedule 12 allows for compensation to be claimed from
the Secretary of State where property is taken, occupied, destroyed, or damaged,
or any other private property rights are interfered with as a consequence of
action taken under Part VII of the Act.
No compensation is payable, however, where the action taken
is in connection with, or reveals evidence of, a scheduled offence or an
offence under the Act for which the owner of the property is later convicted.
