Making an application - damage
To be eligible to apply for Criminal Damage Compensation your property/vehicle should have been damaged in Northern Ireland, we do not consider claims for damage to property/vehicles which occurred elsewhere in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.
Before making an application for Criminal Damage compensation it is recommended that you read the Criminal Damage guidebook on this website, as it will explain who is eligible to claim for compensation.
To apply for Criminal Damage Compensation you should submit a Notice of Intention (Form C1) to the Compensation Agency within 10 days of the incident occurring. This time can be extended to 6 months from the date of incident if part 7 of the Notice of Intention is signed or if a request is put in writing. After 6 months have passed we cannot consider a claim as it will be considered to be late.
Notice of Intention forms are available online, or by contacting Criminal Damage Branch of the Agency on any of the following numbers:
028 90547360
028 90547406
028 90547381
When completing the Notice of Intention you should have the following information ready:-
- Names, including maiden names, of all applicants
- Dates of birth of all applicants
- Addresses of all applicants
- Contact telephone numbers – this will speed up contact between our loss adjuster/motor engineer and the applicant
- Names of any interested parties, for example, insurance company, mortgage company, landlord
- Name of solicitor, if applicable, although the use of a solicitor is not essential
- Address of damaged property, if applicable
- Vehicle registration details including number, make and model, if applicable
- Where the vehicle can be inspected, if applicable
- Date incident happened
- Police station the incident was reported to, along with any police reference numbers – incidents must be reported to the police by the applicant or their representative otherwise the Agency will reject the claim.
You are now ready to complete the Notice of Intention.
Please note that without the information listed above your Notice of Intention may be returned to you or your representative and this may delay the processing of your claim.
Once you have completed the Notice of Intention, please forward it to:
